
Enric Batlle
Phd Architect, Landscape Architect & MBLandArch Director
Associate professor in the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. His PhD thesis “The Garden of the Metropolis” received the UPC’s Extraordinary Doctorate Prize and the FAD Prize Theory and Criticism. He is a founding partner of Batlle i Roig Arquitectura, the multidisciplinary recognized office based in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. His current research is focused on the Green infrastructure of the new Metropolitan Urbanistic Director Plan – PDU as chair of the Landscape division.

Lidia Carrillo
Architect, Landscape Architect
Adjunt professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC. She is working as a senior landscape architect in Batlle i Roig architecture. Her current work is focused on the urbanization of pedestrian streets and urban greenery. She is specialized in analysis and representation of landscape. Her current research focuses on the natural beauty of the obsolete spaces, the Invisible Landscapes.

Xavier Fàbregas
Agricultural Engineer, Agronomist
Collaborating professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC specialized in Horticulture and Gardening. Deputy Head of Studies at the School of Agriculture of Barcelona. Former Coordinator and Professor of the Graduate Program in Landscape Gardening and the UPC. Former Coordinator of the degree in Agro-environment Landscape. His main research area is the ecophysiology of the Mediterranean shrubs, specifically their hydric stress response.

Luís Maldonado
Architect
Collaborating professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC .He is a doctoral candidate with the thesis entitled ‘Paper Gardens’. EMiLA international coordinator and Landscape degree coordinator. His ongoing research and professional practice deals with open space design and planning linking agriculture and forestry to landscape and cities crossing processes and new forms of nature.

Pepa Morán

Adjunct professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. She is a doctor with thesis entitled “Disruptive landscapes: the representation of wildfires in the Mediterranean landscape’. She is the founder of her own studio El obrador. Former Landscape architect for the River Llobregat Team in the Association of Municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. She is founder of Paisea Landscape Magazine.

Anna Zahonero
Biologist, Landscape architect
Adjunct professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. She is the founder of her own studio AZ Paisatgisme, Environmental studies and Landscape Projects. Executive Committee member of the International Biennial of Landscape Barcelona. Former member of the Centre for Research and Landscape Projects (CRPP, UPC). She is a collaborator researcher of the Research Group on Conservation, Biodiversity and Climate Change ICTA-UAB

Javi Zaldívar
Architect, Landscape Architect
CEO at Javi Zaldivar Paisatge i Architecture focused in landscape & public space projects. He was landscape director for the awarded redevelopment of Guanabara’s Bay waterfront in Rio de Janeiro. Former landscape architect at Batlle i Roig Arquitectes. Professor at international workshops in Brasil, Berlin, Versailles, Austria or China. His research project will be ‘the importance of projectuals decisions in the later management of public spaces’.

Albert Bestard

Adjunt professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC. Director of the study AB Paisatgistes SL. Former site supervisor for Landscape contractor ACSA Barcelona and former Landscape Architect at Nigeria. His research is focused on the recovery of streams and water cycle and the analytical capacity of the existing biotic environment and the definition of constructive solutions to integrate the green element into the urban environment

Sara Bartumeus
Architect
Adjunct professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. Associate Professor at the Illinois School of Architecture. Her professional activity, as principal of Renau Bartumeus Arquitectes, involves landscape, urban design, planning and architecture. Former member of the City of Barcelona Architecture Committee, the COAC Advisory Committee and the International Biennial of Landscape Architecture. Her current research projects focus on Barcelona’s Urban Landscape Identity.

Marina Cervera

She is the founder of her own Landscape and Urbanism Studio in Barcelona. International relationships coordinator. She works also as Vicepresident of Professional Practice and Policies of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), Executive Committee Director of the International Biennial of Landscape Barcelona and the Coordinator of the Landscape Architecture Office at the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC).

Manel Colominas
Agricultural Engineer, Geographer & Historian
Adjunct professor of the Department of Agrarian Engineering and Biotechnology UPC. He specialised in Landscape History. He directs his own office Factors de paisatge, a design and construction of landscape architecture studio, collaborating with other important architecture and engineering studios. His research is interested in the European historical gardens of the XIX century, specifically German Romanticism.

Daniel Gómez de Zamora

Adjunt professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC. Specialist in ecological and landscape restoration works in (AZ) medi ambient i paisatge where he carries out studies and projects related to urban and territorial planning and management, as well as to landscape and biodiversity conservation. He complements his professional activity with research in urban ecology.

Jordi Izquierdo

Associate Professor of the Department of Agri Food Engineering and Biotechnology UPC. He is a professor of Pest and Weed control in the ESAB – UPC. Membership of several national and international societies and member of the scientific committee in 3 national weed symposiums. His international research work mainly focuses on weed management and ecology.

María del Mar Pérez

Adjunct professor of the Department of Architectural Technology UPC. She is specialized in Sustainable construction of public space. She is a doctoral candidate with thesis entitled ‘Reduction of drinking water consumption in the city of Barcelona and environmental improvement thanks to Wsuds’. Multidisciplinary professional practice at her own architecture studio. She is a proffesor in the Architecture Bachelor degree and has been at the Technology Master in Architecture UPC and the Sustainable Town Planning Professional Master

Maria Rubert

Associate professor and chair of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. Author of the books ‘Places Porxades a Catalunya’ and co-author of ‘Metro, Metropolitan Galaxies metropolitanas’ and ‘La ciudad no es una hoja en blanco’ (‘The city is not a blank slate’). She is a Freelance illustrator. Research focused in Landscape and Cities, Mobility and Public Space, Metropolis and Mass Housing, Cartography and Representation at the Laboratory of Urbanism of Barcelona.

Ioanna Spanou

Adjunct professor in the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. Her PhD thesis ¨Mapping Atmosphere: rehearsals in mediterranean landscapes¨ received the UPC’s Extraordinary Doctorate Prize. Architect and landscape architect at the Department of Urban Strategy and Analysis in Barcelona Regional, Urban Development Agency. Her current research focuses on cartography as a tool that interprets reality and engenders the re-configuration of the metropolitan landscape.

Stefano Cortellaro
PhD Architect
Adjunt professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning UPC. He set up his professional studio focused in urban planning and design projects, urban and territorial studies and landscape and urban space projects. His work has been internationally exhibited, published in catalogues and awarded. His PhD thesis “The construction of the territory of Ibiza. Urbanism, landscape, architecture” studies the rural landscape and architecture of the Mediterranean area and especially of Ibiza.

Victor Ténez

Víctor Adorno
Biologist, Landscape Architect
Specialist in environmental and systems biology. Former worker in (az) paisatge where he carries out projects always linked to ecological processes and strategical studies for urban and territorial planning. He is currently working with Melanie Theodosopoulou in their own studio, VM paisaje, dedicated to public space interventions, cartographic analysis and lanscape studies and research. Field researcher in nature conservation projects for years, he focuses on the understanding of the process based on contact with the environment and on-site experimentation.

Lara del Valle
Architect, Landscape Architect
She works in collaboration with Pepa Morán and (az) paisatge, developing cartographies, territorial planning and projects of environmental restoration and public space. She is interested in research the transformative energy of the landscape and pursues a project strategy as a collaborative and transdisciplinary experimental process that merges ecology, sociology, culture and economy to ensure new bonds with the environment.

Panita Karamanea
Architect, Landscape architect
Associate Professor at the School of Architecture in the Technical university of Crete. She has also been teaching in Athens and has been jury member of national and international awards. Her own professional studio Topio7 works on projects of landscape, urban design and architecture from the countryside, to urban peripheries and metropolitan centers. She is a PhD candidate with the topic “Cultural ecologies: a resilient perspective for the Attic Coast’s natural landscape”. Her current research focuses on coastal landscapes and the city, through mapping and contemporary theories, on cultural landscapes, identity and ecological design.

Mario Suñer
Architect
Associate & Vice- director of Landscape Projects at Batlle I Roig. His professional experience during 14 years in Batlle i Roig is intensely related with the Llobregat River, as a metroplitan public & natural space. He works actively in many projects along this river in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area as the development of the future Llobregat Blue Path. The central theme of his research project will be ‘the new sustainable mobility and its potential in the landscape transformation, merging city and nature’

Melanie Theodosopoulou
Architect, Landscape architect
Currently working with Victor Adorno in their own studio, VM paisaje, dedicated to public space interventions, cartographic analysis and landscape studies and research. Collaborates with (az) paisatge and several studios of architecture and urban planning. Former landscape architect at Doxiadis+ based in Athens. Her research interest focuses on the development of comprehensive cartographies that can incorporate landscape parameters and criteria, into territorial and urban planning strategies.

Livia Valentini
Architect, Landscape architect
Senior Project Landscape Director of Batlleiroig where she designs and develops several projects of public space, parks and green buildings. Previously she worked at OSA
Architettura e Paesaggio based in Rome. She studied the evolution of the urban form and cartography as a planning tool; she is specialized in territorial dynamics and the natural and social processes that constantly change the landscape.

Iván Sánchez
Architect
Associate partner of Batlle I Roig Architecture and deputy head of the landscape department. For the last 18 years in the studio, he has come a long way since the technical and graphical development of the doctoral thesis of Enric Batlle, towards the responsibility for different urbanization and master planning projects and competitions. From this moment he is co-author, along with Enric Batlle and Joan Roig, of all the landscape projects in which he participates in making strategic decisions within the firm. He is currently directing a team of 20 landscape architects and engineers. His research project aims to develop a logical sustainability in the landscape construction with the capability to improve the user’s life quality.
